NHL Labor Talks To Resume, With Focus On Revenue Definition

NHL labor talks are set to resume today in N.Y., with "discussions focusing on hockey-related revenue and not the core economic issues that continue to divide the two sides." A source said that there are "currently no other meetings planned" after today. This comes after U.S. Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) sent a letter yesterday to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Exec Dir Donald Fehr "urging them to consider the economic impact on their state if the dispute is not resolved" (CP, 10/1).

Sources said that the league "had sought to introduce clarifications" of a definition of hockey-related revenue "favorable to the owners' collective bottom line." The NHL "within the next day or two" is "expected to announce cancellation of at least the first two weeks of regular-season games" (N.Y. POST, 10/2).
