Theme, Details Revealed For London Games Opening Ceremony

Details of the London Games' July 27 Opening Ceremony were revealed today and Olympic Stadium will be "turned into a meadow complete with real animals, grass and clouds that will rain down." Artistic Dir Danny Boyle said, "It is a green and pleasant land because it is something we are really proud of." In what is being billed as "one of the largest sets ever built," the production will also include "families having picnics and sports being played on the village green." Also, "circling the meadow will be a strip made to look like water that will act as a parade ground where the competing athletes will walk during the ceremonial sections of the opening." The cost of the production is approximately US$42M (LONDON TIMES, 6/12).
