NHL Panthers Selling Plastic Rats In Order To Revive Fan Tradition

The NHL Panthers today will begin selling plastic rats in the team store of BankAtlantic Center as part of their Revival of the Rats promotion. The team tonight opens a four-game home stand. It is "now against league rules to throw them after goals, but about 30 rats hit the ice after the Panthers defeated the Capitals at home last week." The league banned the tossing of objects onto ice after the '95-96 season, but "as soon as the final horn sounds on a victory it's OK to let them fly" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 12/13).
