Michael Whan Discusses State Of LPGA On "Morning Drive"

The LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Titleholders event began today, and Commissioner Michael Whan appeared in-studio on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” this morning to discuss the state of the tour. He addressed the success of Yani Tseng, calling her seven wins this year, including two major championships, “almost impossible to ignore.” Whan: “We realize that maybe the LPGA isn’t the first name every time we do a stats update in golf. But we're getting farther and farther up that list because of what Yani is doing. … I think she's helping everybody wake up to what’s really going on in the LPGA.”

Symetra Financial President & CEO Tom Marra joined Whan on the show to discuss their new deal for the title sponsorship of the LPGA Futures Tour. Whan stressed the importance of “looking for a business partner that can share the vision” of the Futures Tour, and said through partnering with Symetra, “opportunities become bigger.” The LPGA can “think and dream a little bigger” (“Morning Drive,” Golf Channel, 11/17).
