Thousands Line Streets, Pack Busch Stadium For Cardinals Parade

The MLB Cardinals held a parade in St. Louis yesterday to celebrate the franchise's 11th World Series championship. The procession began at about 4:00pm CT and "rolled past thousands upon thousands of fans in the downtown area." The team then "arrived to a hero's welcome" at Busch Stadium, where World Series MVP David Freese was presented with the keys to the City and County of St. Louis. Albert Pujols received a "standing ovation of approximately 45 seconds" (MLB.com, 10/30). More than 40,000 fans were on hand at the ballpark (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/31).

MLB runs a full-page ad in this morning's USA Today congratulating the Cardinals (THE DAILY). Manager Tony La Russa will appear tonight on CBS' "Late Show," airing opposite Freese's appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/31). General Mills' Wheaties Fuel cereal brand has issued a limited edition commemorative package honoring Pujols. The box will be available exclusively at six St. Louis-area grocery stores (Wheaties).

Fox finished with a 10.0 final Nielsen rating and 16.6 million viewers for the seven-game Cardinals-Rangers World Series, up 19% and 16%, respectively, from last year’s five-game Giants-Rangers series. Game Seven on Friday night earned a 14.7 rating and 25.4 million viewers, marking MLB’s highest-rated and most-viewed game since Fox earned an 18.2 rating and 28.8 million viewers for the Red Sox’ World Series clincher in ’04.
