Cubs Given Permission By MLB To Announce Front-Office Moves

MLB reportedly will allow the Cubs to make an announcement today regarding front-office changes, as today is a scheduled travel day for the World Series teams. Theo Epstein is expected to join the team, with Padres GM Jed Hoyer to "reunite with Epstein" as the new Cubs GM. The Padres "would then promote Josh Byrnes" from Senior VP/Baseball Operations to GM (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/21). MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said that he "may wind up arbitrating" the matter of how the Cubs will compensate the Red Sox for Epstein. Selig: "It is a possibility. No question" (BOSTON HERALD, 10/21).

The Angels also have an opening at GM. Owner Arte Moreno and team President John Carpino met with Rays Exec VP/Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman in Florida this week, as first reported on DRaysBay.com. Rays and Angels officials "declined to comment." The team also reportedly interviewed Yankees VP/Amateur Scouting Damon Oppenheimer (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 10/21).
