Fox today will announce that its coverage of the World Series will include "black-and-white on-air shots, looking sort of like X-rays, that are meant to track heat." The Fox Hot Spot uses "heat-seeking sensors to pinpoint heat made by a ball making contact -- with, say, bats, face masks, players' bodies -- and mark the spot for viewers by making it glow" (USA TODAY, 10/19).

Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Virtus Bologna has ended its pursuit to sign Lakers G Kobe Bryant. The paper reported the last request made by Bryant's agent, Rob Pelinka, were "too high" for Virtus Bologna Owner Claudio Sabatini, "who decided to give up on the negotiations" (LATIMES.com, 10/18).

The 76ers today are running full-page ads in both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News' sports sections that features an open letter to the fans from the team's new ownership group. The letter is also being mailed to season-ticket holders and will appear on the team's website (THE DAILY).

MLB is running a full-page ad in this morning's USA Today that promotes Fox' coverage of the World Series, which begins tonight at 8:00pm ET (THE DAILY).
