EPL's Queens Park Rangers To Announce Takeover By Fernandes

EPL club Queens Park Rangers today is expected to formally announce a takeover by Malaysian airline entrepreneur Tony Fernandes. The AirAsia CEO has been in London "the past few days, negotiating to buy the 66% stake in QPR" currently owned by Bernie Ecclestone. Fernandes is "expected to take over in partnership with Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of the Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, who has been discussing buying 10% from Ecclestone." That would up the Mittal stake to 43%, with Fernandes holding 56% (GUARDIAN, 8/18).
