Decision On Cal Sports Programs Delayed As Officials Verify Pledges

Univ. of California officials Thursday "put off their decision on the fate of five Cal sports” in order to verify pledges made to the programs. Between $12-15M "has been pledged ... in an ongoing fundraising effort on behalf of baseball, men's and women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse and men's rugby." Reports Thursday had all five sports being reinstated, but Cal Exec Dir of Public Affairs Dan Mogulof said in a statement any reports that the process is completed are “categorically false" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/11).

Two sources said that the “most likely scenario involves baseball and men’s gymnastics being cut,” with the other sports remaining. A decision could come today (CONTRA COSTA TIMES, 2/11).
