West Ham Named Preferred Bidder For London's Olympic Stadium

EPL club West Ham United today was "officially confirmed" as having the preferred bid to take over London's Olympic Stadium after the '12 Games. The Olympic Park Legacy Company announced that West Ham had beaten out EPL club Tottenham Hotspur. The choice, still to be ratified by the U.K. government and London Mayor Boris Johnson, "will see the athletics track retained" in the 60,000-seat venue (GUARDIAN.co.uk, 2/11).

Tottenham Hotspur and third-tier club Leyton Orient "will consider legal challenges to West Ham's selection." Political support for West Ham's track-friendly bid is "strong and is understood to have played a key part in the success" (London TELEGRAPH, 2/11). Tottenham also "will consider moving to a new site" away from their current stadium at White Hart Lane (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 2/11).
