MLB OWNERS DELAY VOTE ON DECISION TO RELOCATE EXPOS TO DC

The WASHINGTON POST reports that MLB owners yesterday delayed a vote to approve the Expos’ move to Washington, “as senior baseball officials stepped up talks” with Orioles Owner Peter Angelos “to win his support for relocating the franchise.” Owners and MLB execs said that the Expos’ relocation “was not at risk and that they still viewed the owners’ vote as a mere technicality” (WASHINGTON POST, 11/19).

The MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL reports that all signs “pointed toward a conference call” to approve the sale of the Brewers to Mark Attanasio “by the first week of December, at the latest.” MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and President & COO Bob DuPuy said that they “preferred to use the same conference call of owners to approve the Brewers’ sale as well as the relocation” of the Expos (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 11/19).

But, USA TODAY reports that the owners are expected to vote on the sale of the Brewers to Attanasio when they meet January 19-20. Additionally, the proposed appointment of former agent Jeff Moorad as D’Backs CEO is likely to be considered at that time (USA TODAY, 11/19).

ABC FILMING LATEST “MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL” INTRODUCTION

BLOOMBERG NEWS reported that ABC today with Chiefs QB Trent Green and TE Tony Gonzalez will film portions of the pre-game “MNF” skit that will air prior to the upcoming Patriots-Chiefs game. Chiefs Dir or Public Relations Bob Moore said the intro “will be in good taste and football-related. There won’t be a third party with the players.” Moore also said that the NFL has not “contacted the Chiefs about content of the pregame piece” (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 11/18).

INFLUENTIAL GROUP SUPPORTING NEW DOWNTOWN K.C. BALLPARK

The K.C. STAR reports that the Downtown Council, an “organization of influential business and property owners, plans to officially announce its support” for a new downtown ballpark today. The group expects to have a “full-fledged proposal that includes financing options ready to present to the Royals and the public sometime next month.” The council “commissioned a $100,000 downtown ballpark feasibility study earlier this year, but kept it under wraps at the request of supporters of the Bistate II initiative” (K.C. STAR, 11/19).

FINAL JEOPARDY!

Last night’s “Final Jeopardy!” category was “American Novels.”

“The image seen here is part of Faulkner’s original text of this 1930 novel.”

LAUGH TRACK

THE MONOLOGUES:

CBS’ David Letterman: “I want to get right through this tonight if I can, because I’m taking mom to the ‘SpongeBob’ movie. … American Airlines is eliminating pillows on all of their flights. I thought that was too bad. I guess you have to find another way to muffle a screaming infant. I honestly will miss those pillows because there’s nothing I liked more than curling up on a pillow previously used by a Central American drug mule. … President Bush was actually there at the opening of the Bill Clinton presidential library. It was a good day for him. He raised $6.5[M]. President Bush actually was very excited to be there because he’d never been to a library before. … Clinton was very excited. What made it really special for President Clinton was the appearance of Dick Cheney’s hot lesbian daughter. … The library itself is state-of-the-art, and when you take the tour of the library, they have an exact replica of the Oval Office, and it’s complete with an animatronic Hillary throwing a lamp” (“Late Show,” CBS, 11/18).

NBC’s Jay Leno: “It poured all day at the opening of the Bill Clinton presidential library. Nothing but rain, which was kind of ironic because a lot of dresses got ruined. President Bush was there. In fact, when they told President Bush it was going to be a gala event, he said, ‘Well none of them are going to be getting married.’ … It was all very dignified. There was one kind of tacky moment when Clinton started handing out cigars. … Did you see Al Gore? I don’t want to say Al Gore has gotten big but when Clinton saw him from behind he said, ‘Monica?’ … What do the price of gold and Anna Nicole Smith have in common? Earlier this week, they both hit a ten-year high. … ABC has now apologized for airing the sexually suggestive promo at the beginning of [‘MNF’]. … This is the second time [‘MNF’] has had to apologize. The first time was two weeks ago when they showed the Miami Dolphins game” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 11/18).
