LAUGH TRACK

THE MONOLOGUES: NBC's Jay Leno: "Plastic surgeons in (L.A.) are actually offering Mother's Day breast implant specials. Let me tell you something. If you're looking at your mom and you're wondering how she'd look with implants, you got a bigger problem than what gift to get. ... A jewelry store in Beverly Hills is offering roses dipped in gold for Mother's Day. Apparently, they felt regular roses weren't expensive enough ... A Canadian agency is reporting the number of obese Canadians is rising rapidly. See, those Canadians are always trying to copy us. Hey Canada, get a life! We were fat first! ... The good news for Canadians – 280 pounds Canadian is only 180 pounds American. ... The Federal Trade Commission said they're bringing false advertising charges against the makers of Ab Energizer and the AbTronic. You know those stupid belts on TV with the wires? The ones that (electronically) stimulate your stomach? ... The machines have two settings – gullible and really gullible. ... They use electricity to give you that buff look. Did you ever see anybody hit by lightning? Do they look healthier to you? ... The FTC said they're going to fine these companies $80(M), or four easy payments of $19,999,999. ... Simon & Schuster announced it's going to pay Ozzy Osbourne $3(M) to write his memoirs. Memoirs! What is his memory, maybe the last two weeks? They say this will be the first book written entirely on rolling papers. ... Beverly Hills madam Heidi Fleiss ... said she was offered $100,000 to fight Tonya Harding on Fox's 'Celebrity Boxing,' but she declined. She turned it down. How sleazy is your network when hookers are turning you down? That doesn't say much for Fox" ("Tonight Show," NBC, 5/10).

CBS' David Letterman: "It's so nice today, Spider-Man was sunbathing on the side of a building. ... Saturday night, right here on CBS, a fantastic special for you, 'World's Greatest Commercials.' You know what it's going to be? It'll be about 20 minutes of [great] commercials, and then the rest will be just commercials. ... CBS' viewers will get to see commercials for all their products – Metamucil, Polident, Depends. It'll be a long night for all of us. ... Sunday (was) Mother's Day. That is the day that we honor the woman we blame for all our personal problems. ... Mother's Day with my mom is always the same thing. Halfway through the brunch, she starts accusing the waiter of watering down the Bloody Mary's" ("The Late Show," CBS, 5/10).
