FSU shares new renderings for proposed football-only facility

The Florida State athletic department and Seminole Boosters, Inc. "shared an updated rendering of FSU's proposed football operations building," and it "shows a 150,000 square-foot building which would be attached to FSU's existing Dunlap Athletic Training Complex," according to Curt Weiler of the TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT. The move of the FSU football program out of the Moore Athletic Center "would also give the rest of the FSU sports programs more space to operate out of." When the Unconquered Campaign was announced in '18, it was stated that the football-only facility "would account for $60 million of the $100 million fundraising project." It had an original completion date of July '21, but there is "no new timetable for when it will open." The fundraising goal for the facility "could also increase beyond" $60M. The updated operations building "would be dedicated entirely to football." It would include "large team meeting rooms and meeting rooms for each of the 13 position groups, an indoor walk-through meeting area adjacent to these meeting rooms, offices for all the FSU coaching staff and for their video production staff as well as a team locker room and a lounge/suite for visiting recruits." Also included would be a "strength training and weight room center that includes a large weight room specifically for the football program, walk-through recovery pools, custom hot/cold plunge pools, underwater treadmill pools, a recovery suite and rooms specifically for cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers and high-altitude" (TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT, 4/14). In Orlando, Matt Musrchel notes the project has been "privately funded through booster donations and new revenue streams tied to proposed changes to Doak Campbell Stadium." So far, the group "has raised over $43 million through its fundraising campaign" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/15).
