Elk Grove Village, Ill., Continuing To Invest In Bahamas Bowl Sponsorship

Elk Grove Village, Ill., has spent $425,000 in total on the second installment of its "unconventional" sponsorship of the Bahamas Bowl, including $300,000 to have the municipality's marketing tagline, "'Makers Wanted,' affixed to the title" of the bowl, according to Christopher Placek of the Chicago DAILY HERALD. That $300,000 will also see the bowl game's logo displayed during ESPN's national broadcast and on the 50-yard line of the field, in addition to "'Makers Wanted Elk Grove Village Illinois' logos that will be placed on the 25-yard lines." For $125,000 more, the village "paid a video production firm to make commercials that will be featured during the broadcast," as well as "other target marketing." Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson said that of the six commercials to air, one "aims to show how Elk Grove is 'thinking outside the box,'" and will describe how the first bowl game sponsorship in '18 "led to the village's attracting a brick-and-mortar business, Love's gas station, to the business park." Placek noted another TV spot will "highlight" the new $1B Elk Grove Technology Park. Developers of the 85-acre site, Brennan Investment Group, are "among the local contingent of some 20 business leaders, village officials, videographers and a photographer headed to the Bahamas this week." This year's game between Charlotte and Buffalo kicks off Friday at 2:00pm ET (Chicago DAILY HERALD, 12/16).
