16 Pro Fortnite Players Want to Protect Their Labor Rights, Invite Others to Join Association

The Fortnite Professional Players’ Association has been founded by a group of 16 pro gamers. Their goal is to build a more equitable relationship between pro Fortnite players and Epic Games, the game’s developer.

While the inaugural Fortnite World Cup held in New York City this summer offered prizes of $3 million for its solo and duo winners, those sums pale in comparison to the developer’s financial successes. Epic made $3 billion in profit from Fortnite in 2018.

The FPPA aims to represent Fortnite players across the world, giving them a voice with regards to the future direction of the pro Fortnite scene. The 16 founding players will become board members. The FFPA now plans to invite more players to join the group as regular members.

The group of 16 includes players from leading esports organizations such as Team Liquid, NRG, 100 Thieves, FaZe Clan, Team SoloMid and Fnatic. It also counts Fortnite World Cup winners Kyle Giersdorf and David Wang among its ranks. Giersdorf won the solo competition in New York, and Wang is one half of the team that won the duo competition.
