Falcons Hiring Expert To Address Egress Issues At New Stadium

Congestion in the concourse and gate areas after events at M-B Stadium has drawn fan complaintsGETTY IMAGES

AMB Sports & Entertainment is in the process of "hiring an outside expert to evaluate egress issues at Mercedes-Benz Stadium," according to Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. Congestion in the concourses and gate areas after events "has drawn complaints from fans since the stadium opened six months ago." Additional doors -- three sets of double doors and one overhead rolling door -- "have been installed this month on the east end of the building." The consultant, not yet selected, "will be tasked with evaluating the steps taken so far and looking for potential additional improvements." Regarding the criticism of the stadium’s audio clarity, Georgia World Congress Center Authority COO Kevin Duvall told the GWCCA board yesterday that the Falcons "have been conducting tests throughout the seating bowl 'to make sure they find the right solution for that.'” He added that a possible solution "will be tested in several suites at Atlanta United’s home opener March 11" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 2/28).

GETTING RECOGNIZED: The Associated General Contractors of America yesterday named M-B Stadium the most significant construction project of '17. As a result, the project's contractor, a joint venture of Holder-Hunt-Russell-Moody, received the association's Construction Risk Partners Build America Grand Award, as well as the award for the best building project over $100M (AGC of America).
