Nike Adds U.S. Open Champ Sloane Stephens To Roster Of Tennis Endorsers

Sloane Stephens is joining Nike’s roster of endorsers, and the tennis player will now wear Nike apparel and sneakers as part of a new deal. Stephens is leaving Under Armour after joining that brand in '10. She made the Nike announcement last night on her Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stephens' contract with UA expired after last year’s U.S. Open, which she won for her first Grand Slam title. A source said that UA tried to secure Stephens, as did Adidas and Uniqlo. Nike counts most of the top tennis players in its stable of endorsers, including Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Sources in October said that UA was considering exiting some of its smaller sport categories, including tennis. The brand still sponsors three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray on the men's side. Stephens is repped by TLA Worldwide. While Stephens now has a new apparel/sneaker deal, current WTA Tour No. 1 Simona Halep remains without one after she could not come to terms with Adidas.
