President Trump, First Lady Planning On Attending CFP Title Game In Atlanta

President Trump is "planning to attend" the CFP title game between Georgia and Alabama on Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, according to sources cited in a front-page piece by Greg Bluestein of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. Trump is "set to attend the game" with Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Vice President Pence's Chief of Staff Nick Ayers. First Lady Melania Trump is also "expected to attend," which will have "stepped-up security." Atlanta Police Dir of Public Affairs Carlos Campos said that the department is "working with the Secret Service to ratchet up security for his arrival." The visit comes as Trump "focuses his attention" on the CFP even as he continues a "war of words with the NFL over players who protest social injustice during the national anthem." White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders opened her press briefing Tuesday by "congratulating the SEC schools 'from two great states, both in the heart of Trump country' for bowl victories that propelled them to the championship" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 1/4). CFP Exec Dir Bill Hancock said that he had "not talked to anyone at the White House." Hancock: "I'm sure the White House will announce the president's travel plans" (USA TODAY, 1/4).
