In addition to scouting, Alvarez will "help prepare the A's for the Draft and work with the club's scouting database" (MLB.com, 1/1)....The NFL Giants "fired" VP/Player Evaluation MARC ROSS, who had been with the club since '07 (AP, 12/30)....Longtime N.Y. Times Sports Editor JAY SCHREIBER officially retired Friday after 27 years at the paper (TWITTER.com, 12/29).
