End Of Mike Francesa Era Sees WFAN Rank Second In N.Y. Drive Time Window

N.Y.-based WFAN-AM "ranked second in afternoon drive time for the last full ratings book of the Mike Francesa era" that covered Sept. 14-Dec. 6, according to data cited by Neil Best of NEWSDAY. The station's rating in the "key" male 25-54 demo trailed only WLTW-FM, which was "helped as usual by its holiday music format." Michael Kay's show on ESPN Radio 98.7 N.Y. ranked fourth, "keeping with recent strong showings for Kay compared to other programs on that channel." For the entirety of Francesa’s actual time slot of 1:00-6:30pm ET, he "finished second in the fall book to WLTW." ESPN Radio N.Y. was "seventh during that period." Francesa’s ratings "do not include his heavily publicized last week at WFAN, culminating with his finale on Dec. 15." WFAN "maintained its ratings success in morning drive time" from 6:00-10:00am, "even after the resignation of morning co-host Craig Carton on Sept. 13." With Jerry Recco filling in for Carton opposite Boomer Esiason through most of that period, WFAN "finished first among men 25-54." WLTW was second and ESPN was 12th (NEWSDAY.com, 12/26).
