Hyundai Returning To Super Bowl As In-Game Advertiser After Postgame Play Last Season

Hyundai, which ran a postgame Super Bowl spot last year, has "secured in-game ad time" for Super Bowl LII, according to E.J. Schultz of AD AGE. The automaker "declined to reveal specifics, including the number of ads it plans to run," but Innocean, California, will once again "handle the creative." Hyundai's postgame spot after Super Bowl LI was "shot, edited and produced during the game." The 90-second ad, called "Operation Better," united on-duty military members with family members "via giant video screens." Including that spot, the brand has "run ads in or around 10 of the last 11 Super Bowls." The only other automaker to "confirm a buy so far is Kia" (ADAGE.com, 12/13).

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: POWDER.com's Sierra Davis noted Salt Lake City-based skier Julian Carr is "attempting to raise" $5.5M by Dec. 22 to "fund what will be the first ever Kickstarter-supported Super Bowl ad." An ambassador of Protect Our Winters, Carr "hopes to bring important climate change data to the largest audience" in the U.S. Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, S.F., has "offered to create the ad pro bono if Carr is able to raise the necessary funds for purchasing the airtime" (POWDER.com, 12/13).
