Padres Lock Up GM A.J. Preller With Extension Through '22; Pirates Shuffle Front Office

Padres GM & Exec VP A.J. PRELLER has "received a guarantee of three more years" through the '22 season, according to Dennis Lin of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. His original five-year deal "would have taken him" through '19. With manager ANDY GREEN also locked up through '21, the Padres "granted rare job security in a year of noticeable staffing turnover for other clubs, most of which have been winning more games" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/3).

IN THE CLUBHOUSE: Pirates Assistant GM GREG SMITH has been "reassigned" to the role of Special Assistant to the GM. The Pirates also promoted SEAN MCNALLY to Special Assistant to the GM. New additions to team are TREY ROSE as Baseball Operations Assistant and JOE DOUGLAS and JUSTIN NEWMAN as Quantitative Analysts (DKPITTSBURGHSPORTS.com, 12/1)....The Phillies promoted the following: BRYAN MINNITI to Assistant GM; CHRIS CASHMAN to Manager of Player Procurement; and FRANK COPPENBARGER to Special Assistant for Ballpark Projects. The team also hired DANA PARKS as Coordinator for Player Development (Phillies)....The Dodgers promoted BRANDON GOMES to Dir of Player Development and named RON PORTERFIELD Dir of Player Health (Dodgers)....The Indians promoted BRAD GRANT to VP/Baseball Operations Strategy & Administration (Indians).
