BK Racing Looks To Stay In NASCAR Cup Series With Marlowe Selling 10% Stake

BK Racing investor Anthony Marlowe on Friday announced that he had sold his 10% stake in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team to South Carolina-based Sport Venture Group subsidiary Lynch Racing. Financial terms were not disclosed. Marlowe has been trying to consummate the deal since he offered on Twitter to sell his stake in December '15 for $1M. Marlowe in a statement said, “Sport Venture Group has a tremendous opportunity to build upon BK Racing’s six consecutive full-time seasons. SVG and The Lynch Racing Co. know the risks involved, but also bring fresh ideas and relationships that could be massively accretive to their investment and team." BK Racing and Majority Owner Ron Devine are currently embroiled in several financial issues that have raised questions about whether the team will fold, but Devine has continued to insist that the team will be on the grid at February’s Daytona 500 -- and this new investment seems to bolster that notion (Adam Stern, Staff Writer).

DOWN THE LINE: MOTORSPORT.com's Lee Spencer noted it remains NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski's "dream" to revive his racing team and "perhaps have the organization blossom into a NASCAR Cup operation." Keselowski "elected to shutter his racing operation" following the '17 Camping World Truck Series season. Over the last seven seasons, Keselowski "evolved into a dynamic owner." Along with a "comprehension of grassroots racing from his family’s team, he absorbed the polish provided from spending the last eight seasons" with Team Penske. Keselowski said, "I have a mix of the family feel, and a mix of the high-professional feel that Roger brings -- which is a good balance." He added, "I want to be involved in it some way. It makes the most sense to me for that to be in some kind of ownership capacity where I can make the most of my skill set as a leader of a team" (MOTORSPORT.com, 12/3).
