Sportsnet Fires Blue Jays Analyst Gregg Zaun For Inappropriate Behavior In Workplace

Rogers Communications on Thursday fired Blue Jays analyst Gregg Zaun "after multiple women at Sportsnet complained about his 'inappropriate behaviour and comments' in the workplace," according to Shi Davidi of SPORTSNET.ca. The "exact nature of the allegations" against the former MLBer "weren’t detailed by the company, but were not of sexual or physical assault." Rogers Media President Rick Brace in a statement said that the complaints were "investigated and resulted in the termination of his contract, 'effective immediately.'" Davidi noted Zaun is the latest in a "slew of public figures to either face allegations or be fired over workplace misconduct." However, Zaun is the first person "implicated" from the sports world. He joined Sportsnet as an analyst with Blue Jays Central in March '11 "shortly after he announced his retirement" (SPORTSNET.ca, 11/30). The GLOBE & MAIL's David Shoalts reports Zaun's firing "came as a surprise to some of his colleagues." No one from Sportsnet was "willing to comment given the serious and shocking nature of Zaun's departure" (GLOBE & MAIL, 12/1). The CP noted Zaun, who "referred to himself as 'the Manalyst,' was ridiculed" in '12 when he "tweeted a disparaging comment about women in a Toronto nightclub." He also "ruffled the feathers of some Blue Jays players over the years when he criticized their play" (CP, 11/30).
