76ers To Build New Complex In Delaware That Would House G League Franchise

76ers parent Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment plans to build a sports complex in Wilmington, Del., that includes a new 2,500-seat facility for the G League Delaware 87ers, the 76ers' affiliate that will be rebranded next year. The new facility, tentatively called the 76ers Fieldhouse, will be part of a new 140,000 square-foot multi-purpose sports complex to be built in a partnership between HBSE and the Buccini/Pollin Group, a Delaware-based real estate development company. The complex is expected to open in late next year. In addition to the fieldhouse, the development will include three basketball courts, two indoor turf fields, a training area and about 30,000-square feet of commercial space. The 76ers would not disclose the cost of the privately funded project, but terms of the deal call for BPG to finance, build and the operate the facility. The 76ers will market and sell sponsorships, including a naming-rights deal. The 87ers currently play at the 5,000-seat Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the Univ. of Delaware. The 76ers plan to rebrand the G League team next season in conjunction of the opening of new facility. “It’s way to extend the Sixers brand,” said 76ers President of Business Operations Chris Heck. “We are the primary tenant and others will utilize the arena. It lets us tap into the youth movement it goes to what we did in Camden with our Sixers practice facility.”
