Texas Tech Having Conversations With MLB Rangers About Football Games At New Ballpark

Texas Tech officials has had what AD Kirby Hocutt termed “exploratory conversations” with the MLB Rangers about the possibility of the school playing football in the club's soon-to-be-built Globe Life Field, according to Don Williams of the LUBBOCK AVALANCHE-JOURNAL. The ballpark is slated to open in '20, and Hocutt said, "Our baseball team has played here in Arlington before, and we hope that continues to be an opportunity in the future. They wanted to brainstorm about what would go into a potential football series in their new ballpark." Williams noted Texas Tech and Baylor have one year remaining on a four-year contract to "play at AT&T Stadium." Hocutt said that another renewal for that series at the Cowboys’ stadium "has been talked about." Hocutt: "This is all just exploratory conversations [with the Rangers]. We haven’t talked about the Texas Tech-Baylor game with them. It’s just brainstorming what opportunities, how can we continue to have as great of a presence in this area as possible" (LUBBOCK AVALANCHE-JOURNAL, 11/13).
