Colorado State "isn’t getting rich from the sale of its new 'state-pride' apparel," but the 12% royalty the athletic department receives from sales should "provide a bit of a boost to a rapidly growing source of revenue," according to Kelly Lyell of the Ft. Collins COLORADOAN. Under Armour has sold "more than 10,000 'units' of the 'state-pride' apparel that was released Sept. 21 with the unveiling of special Colorado state-flag themed uniforms the CSU football team will wear" on Saturday at home against Boise State. CSU Senior Associate AD/Sales, Marketing & Communications Chris Ferris said that the "retail value of the items sold so far is $225,000, earning the university about $27,000." Lyell noted stores have had a "difficult time keeping up with the demand." Some items were "back-ordered for weeks, and others are no longer available on the school’s athletic website store, run by Fanatics" (Ft. Collins COLORADOAN, 11/8). In Colorado, Mike Brohard noted for the most part, the "fans loved it, more so than the CSU marketing team could have fathomed." CSU AD Joe Parker said, "It was very gratifying to see that the initial response and then even the response through the day was successful." Departing from the green and gold and the Rams horns on the helmet "wasn't easy," but Parker felt it was a "strong design, and considering the uniforms will be worn only once ... it was worth the risk." This will be the "first of three alternate uniforms Under Armour will provide the football team, with the others coming in the next three years" (Loveland REPORTER-HERALD, 11/8).
