Gatorade Becomes Manchester City’s Official Sports Nutrition Partner

A global partnership between Gatorade and Manchester City kicked off Sunday during the team’s match against Arsenal. The multi-year deal makes Gatorade Man City’s Official Sports Nutrition Partner and allows the club to leverage the world-renowned Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI).

“Here at Man City we’re very serious about preparing our players for games the best we can,” said Sam Erith, Head of Sports Science for Manchester City Football Club. “That’s why we’re so excited about going into this partnership with Gatorade. The Gatorade Sports Science Institute can offer us a number of innovative ideas and concepts to help prepare our athletes better and help them recover quicker for games.”

GSSI’s mission is to optimize athletes’ health and performance through advanced sports nutrition research. The Institute is already doing work with the NBA’s G-League and NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson, among others. Gatorade has partnerships with many sports teams on hydration.

As part of the deal, Man City’s sports scientists will work hand-in-hand with the GSSI in an effort to optimize areas such as recovery. The team will have full access to all of Gatorade’s products and equipment during training and match day.

“The Gatorade Sports Science Institute and Manchester City will be able to provide personalized hydration and fueling plans to the entire squad, thereby maximizing their performance every time they step onto the pitch,” explained James Carter, PhD, the Director of GSSI.

Gatorade will also receive branding inside of Man City’s Etihad Stadium and the two will collaborate on a series of behind-the-scenes videos for fans.
