Olympic Marketing Notes: Ligety, Shib Sibs Headline Smucker Activation Plans

The J.M. Smucker Co. has signed 10 Olympians and Olympic hopefuls to lead its campaign ahead of the '18 PyeongChang Games. The company will spread its athletes across six different brands. Smucker has been a USOC sponsor since '13, and the company last year renewed its deal through '20 (Ben Fischer, Staff Writer).

LET THERE BE LIGHT: In South Korea, Kang Seung-woo reports Samsung is "sponsoring the torch relay" for the Games under the theme "Celebrate the Light." A total of 7,500 runners will "participate in the relay that covers 2,018 kilometers." As part of efforts to promote the campaign, Samsung "opened a zone in its exhibition hall called 'Samsung d'light'" earlier this year for visitors "to experience the torch relay." Samsung "selected 1,500 runners from all walks of life" to participate. Samsung in '14 agreed with the IOC to "expand its partnership" through to the '20 Tokyo Games (KOREA TIMES, 11/1).

START YOUR ENGINES: Hyundai is "set to support" the Games as an "official tier-one sponsoring partner" along with Samsung, Korea Times and Korean Air. Hyundai will "provide some 4,100 vehicles" for the Games, while "offering various kinds of financial support" for both the Games and the Paralympic Games. Hyundai "also sponsors Korea's national bobsleigh team" (KOREA TIMES, 11/1).
