UFC President White Hints At Possible Streaming Partner In New Media-Rights Deal

UFC President Dana White said OTT is "where it's all going," hinting the governing body could add a streaming partner as part of its next media-rights deal in '19. White said, "Now with technology, we’re getting to the point that I always dreamed about. I always used to say, ‘We’ll take this thing all around the world, build a fan base, build some talent in every country around the world, and then we’ll get to a point in time where everybody can watch it at the same time, on the same platform.’" White also said he could "absolutely" see a digital player like Amazon enter the picture for UFC rights. White: "That stuff is all about to change. ... What’s crazy about television these days is, I have DirecTV and I have cable so I have 2,000 channels and nothing’s on and I think we have the type of content that people will watch." White on whether or not he believes other major sports leagues need to look into being more radical, said, "Yeah ... where you really see it is if you look at ESPN and how powerful ESPN was five years ago. What they were getting per sub, their subs are dropping and they’re scrambling trying to get it figured out right now. They just started that (BAMTech) network which is going to be an OTT. ... It’ll be interesting to see when the smoke clears to see who’s still around and who’s not" (“The Unnamed Podvideocast,” WSJ.com, 10/16).
