Durant Making "Big Plans" For YouTube Channel As Part Of Large Investment Portfolio

Warriors F Kevin Durant has around 30 investments in his portfolio ranging from $50,000-2M, but it is his YouTube channel that could have "big plans," according to a cover story by Matthew Shaer of FAST COMPANY. Durant, who ranks fourth on THE DAILY's list of the most marketable players in the NBA, and agent Rich Kleiman see the YouTube channel "growing into a hub for a variety of programming, with shows (some hosted by Durant and some not) devoted to entertainment, food, video games, and sports." They hope the platform will allow Durant "to circumvent the traditional media tours." Durant: “This way, I talk directly to my fans. If I have something to say, I’ll stream it to the page. It puts the power in my hands.” Shaer notes scripted programming eventually "might follow, or a documentary series." YouTube Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan: "Part of what’s impressed me is the intuitive grasp Kevin has on the technology.” Mohan added that not only is Durant "uploading new content at a fast clip," but he is "spending a lot of time on the community tab, interacting with fans." Shaer notes Durant also has a "hefty investment portfolio that he and Kleiman run under the auspices of the two-year-old Durant Company." Among Durant's investments is on-demand delivery service Postmates, whose CEO Bastian Lehmann said, “With a lot of celebrity investors, the extent of our interactions is, ‘Hey, do you want to come to this movie premiere?’ And that’s fun, but Kevin wants more: He wants to understand the business; he’s got ideas.” Durant also "relies on the counsel" of Warriors G Stephen Curry and F Andre Iguodala. Durant: “They know exactly what to do with their money, and we bounce ideas off each other” (FAST COMPANY, 11/ '17 issue).
