People & Personalities: Boxing Announcer Jim Lampley Signs Multiyear Extension With HBO

ESPN.com's Dan Rafael noted Int'l Boxing HOFer Jim Lampley, who has "called fights for HBO for 29 years, has signed a new multiyear agreement with the network to remain its primary voice of the sport." Lampley has served as the play-by-play man for HBO's boxing franchises "World Championship Boxing" and "Boxing After Dark," as well as its PPV fights. Lampley will also "continue to host his studio show, 'The Fight Game.'" Terms of the agreement were not announced, but a source said that it is a five-year extension (ESPN.com, 10/9).

TIME TO GO: In Philadelphia, Rob Tornoe reported WPEN-FM's Mike Missanelli has been "dismissed from his weekly appearance" on Philadelphia-based WPVI-ABC after "saying it was 'unnatural' for a female broadcaster to call an NFL game." Appearing on WPEN last Thursday, Missanelli "admitted he was fired from his weekly spot" on WPVI's "Sports Sunday" show after "questioning why ESPN had Beth Mowins do play-by-play" (PHILLY.com, 10/6)....In Seattle, Sara Jean Green wrote KJR-AM morning radio host Mitch Levy's 23-year tenure at the sports station is "officially over." Levy was "arrested during an undercover prostitution sting in Bellevue" in August. KJR Programming Dir Rich Moore "declined to say whether Levy was fired or resigned" (SEATTLE TIMES, 10/7).

NOTES: After 20 years at the Bergen Record and NorthJersey.com, including the past seven as sports columnist, Tara Sullivan has "accepted a columnist position at The Boston Globe." Sullivan will "continue writing for The Record through the end of October" (Bergen RECORD, 10/10)....Tennis Channel has hired coach Nick Bollettieri to provide motivational tips; answer viewer questions via "Ask Nick" videos; write weekly articles for TennisChannel.com and sister site Tennis.com and likely contribute on-air and to Tennis magazine (Tennis Channel).
