CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora Walks Back Report That Kaepernick Would Stand If Signed

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora clarified a report yesterday in which he said that Colin Kaepernick "told him he would stand during the national anthem if he played in the NFL again, saying he didn't actually discuss the issue with the player when they spoke," according to the AP. La Canfora in a series of tweets yesterday said that he was "relaying previous reporting about Kaepernick and did not ask" whether he would "sit or stand during the anthem when he spoke about his interview" with Kaepernick during CBS' "The NFL Today." La Canfora tweeted later that he "does not know what Kaepernick would do during the anthem" (AP, 10/8). In S.F., Ann Killion writes the La Canfora/Kaepernick story got "warped through the day." First La Canfora "walked back his comments," which "seemed odd if he spent 'hours'" with Kaepernick. Then a member of Kaepernick’s entourage posted on Instagram that Kaepernick "didn’t grant CBS an interview, but had bumped into the reporter in the lobby." Kaepernick's girlfriend Nessa Diab tweeted that Kaepernick has "never said that he would refrain from kneeling" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/9). SI.com's Richard Deitsch noted Diab's tweet would also "seemingly contradict" a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter in March which stated that Kaepernick would "stand during the national anthem this season if signed" (SI.com, 10/8).
