NBA Franchise Notes: Kings Unveil Secondary Court Design With Dribbling Lion

CBSSPORTS.com's Jack Maloney noted the Kings this season will debut a "bold new secondary court design" that includes an "all-black look that features a lion dribbling a basketball at halfcourt." The court will be used "when they wear their 'Global Uniform.'" There also will be "variations for certain theme nights such as 'Bollywood' and 'Lunar New Year'" (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/14). NBC Sports Bay Area's Ray Ratto said, "They now have to spend their pregames on, ‘What uniform am I wearing? What floor am I standing on?’” Ratto: “What I want from a floor, other than the fact that it doesn't have potholes in it, is when you turn on a game you can tell right away where this game is at." NBC Sports Bay Area's Greg Papa: "Watching the Warriors games this year, they've kind of taken on that feel where it's just kind of Laker-ish with the floor. ... At least this court looks clean" ("The Happy Hour,” NBCS Bay Area, 9/14).

WE CAN STILL BE FRIENDS: In Shreveport, Lex Talamo noted there was a "unanimous city council vote Tuesday against borrowing money to build an arena" for the Pelicans' G League affiliate. Pelicans Senior VP/ Communications Greg Bensel said the council vote "was clear." But he added that the vote would "not affect the team's decision about what city to choose as home to the Pelicans' new minor league affiliate." The Pelicans previously said that Shreveport and Pensacola, Fla., were the "remaining finalists for its new G League team." Talamo also noted the city council vote was 6-0 "against moving forward" with the proposed Cross Bayou Sports Complex (SHREVEPORTTIMES.com 9/14).

BLAST FROM THE PAST
: In Charlotte, Peralta & Bonnell noted the Hornets will "bring back the classic pinstripe-and-pleats look of the original team" during a Nov. 15 game against the Cavaliers. The "iconic uniform look" was "made famous" by clothing designer Alexander Julian in '88. The Hornets are "one of eight NBA teams allowed to wear 'Classic Edition' alternate uniforms for the upcoming season." The alternate look will only be "done in teal for now." The Hornets will also wear the throwback uniforms "two additional times" in the '17-18 season (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/14).
