Manfred Hopes MLB Will Approve Marlins Sale To Sherman/Jeter Group Before November

MLB "hopes to hold a special meeting before November to vote on approving the sale" of the Marlins to a group headed by Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter, according to Ronald Blum of the AP. The next scheduled owners' meeting is Nov. 15-16 in Orlando. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said, "I don't think it will go as long as November. I don't have a date yet. I'm going to try to do it at some point between now and the November owners' meeting." Manfred also said that the special meeting "likely would be held as a telephone conference call" (AP, 9/14).

MAKING ROOM: In Milwaukee, Tom Haudricourt reports the Brewers have "decided to increase the inventory" for the Friday opener of their weekend series against the Marlins that was relocated to Miller Park after "selling more than 30,000 tickets in the first 45 minutes they went on sale Thursday morning." The series was scheduled for Marlins Park, but the series was "moved to Milwaukee" after damage to Miami from Hurricane Irma. The Brewers announced Thursday they would sell only 10,000 tickets for the Friday 7:10pm CT game but "arranged additional ballpark staffing to increase ticket sales." With the additional inventory, the Brewers are "selling 23,000 tickets for each of the three games. Demand was "so high when ticket sales opened" at 10:00am that it "caused a temporary overload of the website for making purchases." Haudricourt notes all of the field-level tickets at $15 and $20 were "snapped up for all three games." The Brewers said that they "still have $10 seats in the loge level available for each game" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 9/15).
