Former SEC Commissioner MIKE SLIVE has "put a name and face on the fight" against prostate cancer. The Mike Slive Foundation for Prostate Cancer Research already has "two presenting sponsors in Regions Bank and Medical Properties Trust." There is an active website, with a launch party slated for Thursday at the Alys Stephens Center on the UAB campus (AL.com, 9/8).

TAKING IT ALL IN
: TIGER WOODS had the "best seat" at the U.S. Open on Friday night when he sat in RAFAEL NADAL's box during his semifinal match against JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO. Woods "sat with his kids along with Nadal's friends" (NYPOST.com, 9/8). CNN President JEFF ZUCKER and MSNBC President PHIL GRIFFIN also took in Nadal's match on Friday night. Seated nearby were NBC's TOM BROKAW and Discovery Communications President & CEO DAVID ZASLAV, who "sat next to" actor ROBERT REDFORD. Spotted "outside Arthur Ashe stadium" on Friday was U.S. Sen. MARK WARNER (D-Va.) (POLITICO.com, 9/11).

GETTING AROUND: Former NHLer ANDREW FERENCE has "initiated the Carbon Neutral Challenge to offset teams’ travel by purchasing carbon credits." He "earned a certificate in corporate sustainability at Harvard Extension School" and has become "involved with November Project, the worldwide fitness movement." He is also investing through Fifth Season Ventures, which "invests in companies providing environmental solutions." Ference serves as Alberta Sport Connection Chair, which "funds sports in his home province." He "started working for Sportsnet in an on-air role he terms as storyteller." Ference is also an investor in Somerville-based Greentown Labs, a "clean technology incubator" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/10).

INJURY SETTLEMENT
: The state of New York has agreed to pay boxer MAGOMED ABDUSALAMOV and his family $22M in what is "believed to be the largest personal injury settlement the state has made" nearly four years after he "suffered brain damage from a bout" at MSG. After Abdusalamov's fight on Nov. 2, 2013, his family "filed suit alleging recklessness, gross negligence and medical malpractice by the New York State Athletic Commission, NYSAC staff and the doctors it retained to work that night." Abdusalamov "remains paralyzed on his right side and unable to walk" (ESPN.com, 9/8).

NAMES: The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Fla., "received a substantial boost Friday" as Sacred Heart Health System announced a $1.6M donation from golfer BUBBA WATSON to "help pay for the under-construction expansion of the children's hospital." Watson’s commitment "adds on to the $500,000 he pledged to the children’s hospital on Aug. 27" (PENSACOLA NEWS JOURNAL, 9/9)....The wives of several Red Sox players "hit the fashion runway all in the name of a good cause." The fourth annual “From Fenway to the Runway” fundraiser was "held Friday at Hotel Commonwealth to benefit the Red Sox Foundation’s education and youth baseball cornerstone programs" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/11)....The Cowboys' home opener at AT&T Stadium last night drew a handful of celebrities, including PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH and his wife LAURA, THE JONAS BROTHERS, BUZZ ALDRIN and PEYTON MANNING (DALLASNEWS.com, 9/10)....The entire Nationals team last night was spotted “celebrating clinching the NL East in the private room at The Salt Line” in DC (POLITICO.com, 9/11).
