A portion of the roof at Marlins Park "appears to be damaged" by Hurricane Irma "based off numerous photos circulating on social media," according to George Richards of the MIAMI HERALD. The retractable roof is "made of three large panels with the top panel seemingly affected by the high winds from Irma." The outer facade of the roof "appears to have been ripped off -- although there may not be any structural damage." The Marlins do not return home until Friday when the Brewers come to town "although the team knows the schedule could change" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 9/11). Meanwhile, in Tampa, Marc Topkin reports Tropicana Field appears to have "made it through Hurricane Irma with its roof intact and no major damage or serious flooding" (TAMPABAY.com, 9/11).
HARD ROCK STADIUM BEING INSPECTED: In Miami, Adam Beasley reports the Dolphins as of this morning "did not know what, if any, structural damage Hurricane Irma caused to Hard Rock Stadium, and won’t until engineers are able to get into the property and perform an inspection." A source said, "We think the stadium may have [experienced] some tornado activity based on radar tracking" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 9/11). Beasley notes Dolphins President & CEO Tom Garfinkel yesterday was "tweeting short videos and still photos taken by surveillance cameras" around the stadium, and the images in the videos are "encouraging." Garfinkel posted a partial view of Hard Rock Stadium's one-year-old canopy from 4:15pm ET yesterday, and the "roof appeared to be intact." On the ground, there was "real damage to the trees that surround Joe Robbie Plaza on the stadium’s north side." However, the statue of Joe Robbie was "unfazed by the gusts that neared 100 miles per hour" (MIAMI HERALD, 9/11).
