IndyCar Hoping To Add Mexico City To '18 Schedule; Decision Could Come In Two Weeks

IndyCar CEO Mark Miles said that he "hopes to place a race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, a 2.7-mile road course" in Mexico City on the '18 schedule and "wants a resolution" when the IndyCar season concludes in two weeks, according to Brant James of USA TODAY. Miles said that he would "seek to slot the race in what this season was a hole between the July 30 event at Mid-Ohio and Aug. 20 at Pocono." Miles is "awaiting a formalized proposal from the prospective promoters, whom he would not identify." IndyCar has had races "evaporate in each of the last two seasons," in Brazil in '15 because of governmental problems and in '16 in Boston because of "permitting and financial woes surrounding the promoter." A race in China was "vacated by a mayor about two months before its scheduled running" in '12 because it conflicted with a local beer festival. Miles said, "We need to just have everything that's been said finally documented" (USATODAY.com, 9/4).
