NBC on Sunday night drew 2.88 million viewers for the P&G Gymnastics Championships. Last year, in an Olympic year, the men’s and women’s events separated. Two years ago, the primetime telecast on a Saturday drew 2.36 million viewers. The ’14 telecast on a Saturday night drew 2 million viewers, while the ’13 event on a Saturday drew 2.27 million viewers.
IT’S IOWA! Golf Channel had live coverage of the final day of the Solheim Cup to itself on Sunday, and drew the best women’s golf audience on cable TV since ’09. Inclement weather forced an early start to Sunday’s play, with Golf Channel averaging 795,000 viewers from 10:30am-4:10pm ET. NBC was supposed to carry the last portion of Sunday’s play, but ended up only airing highlights. That Golf Channel number is the best figure for any women’s golf on cable TV since the Solheim Cup drew 956,000 viewers for the final day in ’09. Coverage last Sunday peaked at 1.26 million viewers from 2:30-2:45. NBC Sports digital also saw its second-best women’s golf event on record, behind only streaming for golf at the ‘16 Rio Games.
UP IN PENN'S WOODS: NBCSN last Sunday afternoon drew 618,000 viewers for the Verizon IndyCar Series race from Pocono, marking the cable net’s best IndyCar audience since Mid-Ohio drew 811,000 viewers in July ’16.
