U.S. Open Fashion: Sharapova Making Her Return In Swarovski-Studded Nike Dress

Maria Sharapova next week will return to the U.S. Open, where she will be "wearing a Swarovski-studded tennis dress by Riccardo Tisci for Nike," according to Steff Yotka of VOGUE. The all-black look, featuring "technical lace and eyelet-like perforations, will be Sharapova’s uniform for her night matches." Sharapova said of the dress, "It was always going to be black. It wasn’t even a question of what we were going to do for the night matches." In '06, Sharapova "won the Open in a black dress." Sharapova: "What I really wanted to relive in this dress is the moment of elegance and thinking of Audrey Hepburn and her classic Givenchy dress." Tisci said, "That moment she had in 2006 was a very iconic moment, and we wanted to honor it and be inspired by it." The look comes complete with a "black bomber jacket, tailored to Sharapova’s exact specifications." The "full look will go on sale" Saturday in Nike stores (VOGUE.com, 8/23).

LOUD COLORS: WOMEN'S WEAR DAILY's Rosemary Feitelberg noted designer Stella McCartney has "created a vibrant pink, red and orange high-neck, A-line-inspired tennis dress with a flared skirt" for Caroline Wozniacki at the U.S. Open (WWD.com, 8/23). VOGUE's Emily Farra wrote Wozniacki will look "particularly bold in a new Adidas x Stella McCartney Barricade kit." Wozniacki said, "The U.S. Open is really special, and it’s always fun to wear something a little different from everyone else. ... I love wearing tight-fitting pieces that show your curves, and really bright colors pop on the court and on TV." In "juicy shades of cherry, hibiscus, and orange, the kit ... combines the designer’s eye for energetic color with Adidas’s high-performance technology." Wozniacki has been "endorsing Adidas by Stella McCartney for eight years now" (VOGUE.com, 8/23).

DESIGN & INSPIRE: FORBES' Allison Olmstead noted Venus Williams on Tuesday debuted Epiphany, the "newest collection from Eleven." She "drew her inspiration for the collection from the words 'striking, confident, and determined,' and chose tangerine, toast (dark grey) and cyan blue as the featured colors." The line includes a number of "different styled tops with varying sleeve lengths." Williams is still "selecting which outfits from the Epiphany collection she will be wearing for the U.S. Open, but the Pendulum Dress is a top choice that will definitely be in the mix" (FORBES.com, 8/22).
