Fan Media Network Allows Mobile Sports Journalists To Earn Money

Dallas-based Fan Media Network is giving fans, journalists and former college athletes an opportunity to make money through its sports media mobile app. Users can film, edit and post video clips of their favorite professional and college teams through the app to drive social media conversation.

“Mobile journalism is easy for trained journalists to access. All they need is an iPhone and iMovie video editing app or the Android equivalent,” company founder and CEO Kirk Berridge said in a statement. “There is no heavy equipment to lug around. They can make and edit videos on their phones and on the go by capturing multiple clips of video footage, then some newswriting and put the clips together with a voiceover or natural sound or music for storytelling of news, games, events and moments. And get paid right on their phones.”

There are three different ways for these users to earn money. The first is through local newsrooms and newspapers buying bite-sized video coverage of certain games and events. The price is $50 from fans and $250 from official correspondents, which are former college players and trained journalists designated by Fan Media Network. After a purchase is made, the money will be transferred into the user’s mobile bank account.

Next, viewers and fans can donate money to users if they like their content. Mobile journalists can then use this money to assist with their own coverage, such as buying tickets to games and upgrading the quality of their phone. Finally, brands can give users money for product placements and testimonials in posted videos. Fan Media Network will then split all revenues 50/50 with mobile journalists and fans for implementing and operating their mobile payments marketplace.

This network of fan-to-fan and brand-to-fan mobile payments is designed to take social media and journalism to a different level.

The Fan Media Network website and app feature 250 team channels from the NCAA, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and MLS. The app can be downloaded through the App Store.
