Season-Ticket Sales Down For Texas Football; School Implements New Social Media Policy

Univ. of Texas season-ticket sales are "down slightly for the coming football season, even with rising optimism about new coach Tom Herman," according to Brian Davis of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. UT has "sold 52,979 season tickets" for the '17 season, which is "down 2,882" from '16. But that figure is "about the same" as the total sold in '15, when UT had 52,774 season tickets "on the books." Davis notes a lackluster home schedule has "hurt box office sales." There are currently "46,830 season-ticket renewals, 1,515 season tickets added to current accounts, 1,927 new season tickets sold and 2,707 season tickets sold in the suites," while students and student guest season-ticket totals "stand at 13,912" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 8/3). Meanwhile, Davis reported UT implemented a "no live-tweeting post-practice social media policy." Reporters will not be allowed to post information from post-practice interviews on social media until "after all interview sessions ended." However, Associate AD/Media Relations John Bianco said that major breaking news could be "tweeted instantly" (STATESMAN.com 8/2).
