Data Shows World Surf League Had Most-Watched Video Globally Over Last Year

California-based analytics and valuation company Hookit looked at the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts of 1,255 leagues, teams and federations across the globe from June 16, 2016-June 15, 2017, and ranked them based on a composite score that took into account factors such as views, shares, likes and number of followers. Real Madrid took top honors among teams globally and had the highest overall score among all properties. The NBA was the top-ranked league overall. One of the many elements that went into the algorithm was the engagement that each property’s individual videos generated. A World Surf League video shot near the organization’s annual Western Australia event was the most-watched video globally over the past year, drawing more than 121.4 million views.
