Future CFP Title Game Host Sites To Be Announced In Early '18; Field Not Expanding

CFP Exec Dir Bill Hancock yesterday said his organization is looking to name sites for “four to six” championship games by Q1 next year, which could cover the title games from '21-24 or '21-26, according to Rabalais & Dellenger of the Baton Rouge ADVOCATE. Hancock, speaking at SEC media days in Hoover, Ala., noted that the first six CFP title games "will have been played in six different states." While trying to avoid lobbying for a particular region or city, Hancock said "bringing the game to other parts of the country is a priority." Hancock: “I wouldn’t be averse to a northern site. I’m not campaigning for that, but we would like to take (the game) around the country.” Hancock said that the first six CFP host cities "could also bid" (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 7/13). Meanwhile, Hancock said there is "no talk about the expansion of the field." He said keeping the field at four teams "keeps the emphasis on college football's regular season." This will be the "fourth year of the four-team playoff format, and Hancock reminded everyone there is a 12-year contract in place for a four-team playoff" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7/13).
