Jaguars, Shahid Khan-Backed Venture Focusing On Bringing Events To Jacksonville

Bold Events, one of Jaguars Owner Shahid Khan's newest ventures, "reaches well beyond the team's operations" and hopes to make area around EverBank Field a "more popular hub of activity that far exceeds its current use," according to Drew Dixon of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. There also are hopes to "create more revenue." Bold Events has "become the controlling entity at a venue still technically owned by the city, not the Jaguars." In the past month, two substantial events "demonstrate the nature of the Bold Events business wing of the Jaguars." Daily's Place Amphitheater officially opened in late May "drawing marquis performances." Bold Events officials later announced they had "agreed to a partnership with One Spark festival officials to resurrect the entrepreneurial festival and move it from the core of downtown to the stadium club areas" in October. Several other events under Bold Events management "included an NFL-licensed product convention in April and much smaller events such as weddings and even high school proms." Jaguars President Mark Lamping said, "Now that we've built the infrastructure to be able to host these events, the natural evolution was to have a company that was focused on bringing events to downtown Jacksonville." Bold Events Senior VP/Sales & Services Chad Johnson said that the company is "etching out something that hasn't really been developed in another NFL franchise." Johnson: "I tried to reach out to other cities that have a creation event downtown that’s coming to a stadium that’s attached to an amphitheater and guess what? I couldn't find a single one. The great thing about this is it's a blank canvas" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 7/9).
