Tom Brady Appears To Address Wife's Comments That He Suffered Concussion In '16

Patriots QB Tom Brady for the first time addressed comments that his wife Gisele Bundchen made in May that he sustained a concussion last season but did not enter the NFL's concussion protocol as part of an "E:60" profile that ran Sunday, though his comments were largely vague and indirect. Brady said, "She's there every day. We go to bed in the same bed every night. She knows when I'm sore, she knows when I'm tired, she knows when I get hit. We drive home together, but she also knows how well I take care of myself. She's a very concerned wife and very loving.” Brady added, “She’ll support me as long as I continue to want to play" ("E:60," ESPN, 7/2). In Boston, Matt Pepin noted Brady was "not listed on any injury report last season." His father, Tom Brady Sr., said that he was "not aware of any concussions last season" (BOSTONGLOBE.com, 7/2). But PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio wrote if Bundchen "says Brady had a concussion, he had a concussion." Florio wondered how the topic is "not being treated as a much bigger deal" by ESPN, which "finally got him to address such a sticky topic on the record." Florio: "I’m tempted to accuse ESPN of deliberately burying it, but the easiest way to bury it would have been to drop it from the interview." Brady has "played through multiple concussions during his career," which apparently will "continue to be ignored, by the league, his team, and pretty much everyone -- except by his spouse" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 7/2). The Boston Globe's Ben Volin tweeted Brady's language "sounds like a confirmation of his concussions" (TWITTER.com, 7/3).
