Time To Play The Game: Minute Media Creates Website Devoted Solely To Esports

Minute Media, which operates the 12Up and 90min destinations, has created a new site devoted to esports, Dbltap.com. The new site follows internal research that found that 85% of Minute Media’s online audience was comprised of gamers, and more than half described themselves as avid gamers. Dbltap.com will not live stream any competitions, but Minute Media has struck partnerships to gain highlight rights and other content from ESL, E-League, DreamHack and Fnatic. Dbltap.com is entirely ad-supported as launch, but the company is exploring the possibility of a premium content offering as well. “This is an area where we can succeed and where we see a lot of opportunity,” said Minute Media President Rich Routman. "The esports space online right now is dominated by the live (competition) platforms, but we’re looking to be a leading news and information source covering the space.” An editorial team of about 20 will be supplemented by Minute Media’s existing strategy of developing and curating user-generated content.
