FAA officials yesterday said that they will examine whether the height of the Raiders’ new domed stadium could "hinder aircraft operations" at nearby McCarran Int'l Airport. FAA Communications Manager Ian Gregor said that the Raiders "filed a request for the FAA to review 21 different points on a 62-acre plot of land on Russell Road." In Las Vegas, Art Marroquin notes the FAA "reviews any structure 150 feet or taller, regardless of location, but the Raiders have not disclosed the height of the venue." The FAA may also "study other factors, including stadium lighting and post-game fireworks that could affect jetliners" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 6/22).
FEE FINDER: In Atlanta, Tim Tucker noted fans visiting Philips Arena will "pay an additional $3 per ticket" as part of the $192.5M deal to renovate the arena. The facility-admissions surcharge will "go toward, among other things, the cost of traffic management around Philips." According to the terms of the deal, it is the "responsibility of the Hawks 'to develop and deliver a new Traffic Management and Pedestrian Security Plan.'" The Hawks will be "reimbursed $360,000 per year from the surcharge for such costs" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 6/21).
IF YOU BUILD IT: In Dallas, Karen Robinson-Jacobs notes Stars Owner Tom Gaglardi got "permission from the city of Frisco Tuesday to buy nearly four acres of city-owned land at a cut rate in exchange for a commitment to build a 300-room full-service hotel." By a unanimous vote, the Frisco City Council "approved a plan to sell 3.7 acres to Northland Developments Texas for the development of a Sutton Place hotel." The land would cost Northland $1.13M (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/22).
