Facility Notes

SI.com's Jon Wertheim reported by '20, there will be "covered venues at Roland Garros," home to the French Open. But as always, it is "one thing to concoct a fancy architectural rendering." It is "another thing to actually take out the spades and backhoes and begin formally." But by '20, the refurbishment and roofs "will be complete" (SI.com, 6/11).

CONFLICT OF INTEREST? In San Diego, Jeff McDonald noted SoccerCity developers are alleging that former City Manager Jack McGrory "helped sink a deal they reached with San Diego State." FS Investors, the group pushing SoccerCity, said that McGrory had a "conflict because he was involved in a competing idea for stadium reuse at the same time as he was advising SDSU." McGrory, SDSU and the proponent of the alternative development plan said that there is "no such conflict" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 6/10).

CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL: The Georgia Dome is "now scheduled for implosion" at 7:30am ET on Nov. 20. The date set for implosion is the Monday before Thanksgiving, and the Falcons play the Seahawks that night on "MNF" (AJC.com, 6/9). Meanwhile, Detroit city officials have confirmed that the Pontiac Silverdome could "face a wrecking ball in the next six weeks" (DETROIT NEWS, 6/10).
