Return Of The Mack: Houston-Area Furniture Store Will Refund Purchases If Astros Win WS

Houston-based Gallery Furniture is running a new promotion "promising to refund bedding-related purchases of $3,000 or more" if the Astros win the World Series, according to Clint Engel of FURNITURE TODAY. The "Win it All, Get it All" promo began earlier this week and "doesn't have a specific end date just yet." Gallery Furniture Owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale said that there is a "certain dollar amount he's willing to risk before he cuts it off." He would not give an exact amount but said it would be "$10 to $20 million" (FURNITURETODAY.com, 5/25). In Houston, Olivia Pulsinelli noted McIngvale has "launched several similar promotions over the past few years, and he's had to pay the refunds for most of them." The company in '14 "offered full refunds to the first 500 customers who spent $6,300 or more if the Astros won at least 63 games." The Astros went 70-92 that year to avoid a fourth-straight 100-loss season, and Gallery Furniture "had to refund about $4 million." Other recent promos have involved football, the "price of oil and the presidential election" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/25).
